Basics of Indoor Lighting

You’re into the lighting industry but admit it, there are a lot of things you still do not know about lighting. In this slide presentation, I am sharing to you Basics of Indoor Lighting in a way it has never been presented before. It is good reference to the experienced and a good heads up to the newbie in lighting.

I shared this Presentation last February 2012 at one of IIEE-CRCSA’s Technical Seminar which was attended by more than 100 Filipino electrical engineer practitioners and other nationalities. The feedback I got was mostly positive and was generally rated as “Very Good”.

I hope you can learn from this slideshare as those who attended did. As you may have noticed, the points I raised are geared towards relevant parameters of DIALux. And obviously, I was promoting products from Saudi Lighting at the same time. Anyhow, feel free to use the tables and standards I used which is definitely going to be useful to know as a good lighting professional.

  1. What exactly is a daylight quotient and what do you need it for? With the aid of a daylight quotient it is possible to determine the amount of daylight available in indoor spaces. The amount of daylight available in offices, for example, should not fall below a lower limit of DIN 5034-1: 1999-10.To fulfil these recommendations or standards it is necessary to calculate daylight and thus to determine the daylight quotient. The daylight quotient [D] is the ratio of illuminance at a given point in an indoor room [Ep] to the illuminance outdoors under a uniformly cloudy sky with no shadows [Ea]. Optimal daylight is achieved from a value of ca. 4 %. Formula for daylight quotient: When photometric values have been calculated and are available as a table it is easy to copy these data into an Excel table and, for example, to create a spatial representation of the development of the daylight quotient as a ”mountain range“(Illustration 7).

  2. Are you new to Dialux? Try this simple and effective light planning software open to all luminaires by GE. If you know how it works, try it now with our products. 3. Hello I am very new to dialux and I saw this rendered projects that are very astonishing and it is far from the Raytrace in terms of quality and realistic properties. It’s like the same quality with video games today. Do you have any idea how do they do it? Or do they use a different kind of rendering software. You can response here in my email.
